What is a Polygon?

A polygon is a plane figure that is bounded by a finite chain of straight lines segments closing in a loop to form a closed polygonal chain or circuit. These segments are called its edges or sides, and the points where two edges meet are the polygon’s vertices (singular: vertex) or corners. To form a polygon, we need a minimum of 3 sides.

Classification of Polygons:-

Polygons are classified according to the number of sides or vertices they have:-
Polygons with three sides are called triangle. Polygons with 4 sides are called quadrilateral, but Polygon with two sides such as of a line segment does not exist according to the definition.

What is a diagonal?

A diagonal is a line segment connecting two non-consecutive vertices of a polygon. For a polygon of n sides, the number of diagonals is given by 𝑛(𝑛−3)/
2 .
