The chapter “The Invention of Vita-Wonk” talks about how Vita-Wonk was invented by a scientist by the name Mr Wonka. At first, he had invented Wonka-Vite, which would reduce the age of a person and make him/her younger. It entails the series of events that happened before Mr Wonka could finally invent Vita-Wonk which can make a person older.

Ans. (i) Mr Wonka mentions Douglas fir, cedar. The Bristlecone pine lives the longest.

 

(ii) Bristlecone pine lives for over 4000 years and can be found upon the slopes of Wheeler Peak in Nevada, USA.

 

  1. How many of the oldest living things can you remember from Mr Wonka’s list? (Don’t look back at the story!) Do you think all these things really exist, or are some of them purely imaginary?

 

Ans. Some of the oldest living things that Mr Wonka mentioned include a pint of sap from a 4000-year-old Bristlecone pine, toe-nail clippings from a 168-year-old Russian Farmer, an egg laid by a 200-year-old tortoise, the tail of 51-year-old horse and the black teeth of a 97-year-old Grimalkin. I think a majority of these things are purely imaginary.

 

  1. Why does Mr Wonka collect items from the oldest things? Do you think this is the right way to begin his invention?

 

Ans. Mr Wonka collected items from the oldest things because he wanted to invent age to make people older. In order to do the research, it’s a good idea to study the oldest things but small things such as a pint, a toe-nail, a tail, etc. won’t suffice the invention.

 

  1. What happens to the volunteer who swallows four drops of the new invention? What is the name of the invention?

 

Ans. The volunteer was originally twenty years old but after swallowing four drops of the new invention, he became seventy-five years old. He began wrinkling and shrivelling up all over and his hair started dropping off and his teeth started falling out. 

The name of the invention was Vita-Wonk.

                                         Easy Palak–Dal

 

INGREDIENTS

 

 

  • One onion
  • One cup dal
  • Two thin green chillies
  • Half a teaspoon red chilli powder
  • Eight small bunches of palak
  • Two tomatoes
  • Salt to taste

 

 

Wash and cut the vegetables; shred the palak. Put everything in a pressure cooker. Let the cooker whistle three times, then switch it off. Fry a few cumin seeds in oil and add to the palak–dal.
