Trees

Working with the Poem

  1. What are the games or human activities which use trees, or in which trees also ‘participate’?

Ans. Trees can be used by children for swinging, making tree houses, playing hide and seek. They can also be used by adults for having tea parties under the shade and for painting lovely pictures.

  1. (i) “Trees are to make no shade in winter.” What does this mean? (Contrast this line with the line immediately before it.)

Ans. During summers, trees provide shade and protection from the sun whereas during winters, we require sunlight. Therefore, trees are not used as shade in winters because it’s already cold.

(ii) “Trees are for apples to grow on, or pears.” Do you agree that one purpose of a tree is to have fruit on it? Or do you think this line is humorous?

Ans. Yes, one of the main purposes of a tree is to have fruits on it. No, this line is not humorous. Humans and animals are largely dependent on trees as they provide oxygen, eatables, and help in maintaining pollution levels.
